Bladder cancer is the most expensive disease from diagnosis to death. Every year over 340.000 new patients will be diagnosed worldwide. Every year more than 160.000 will die. Worldwide, there are 2.7 million (ex)-bladder cancer patients. As bladder cancer has a high recurrence rate (50%-80%), most patients need lifelong follow up to check for recurrences. Current diagnostic methods are sub-optimal, as the urologists has to base his decision on incomplete visual information. This leads to the fact that 30% of the surgeries performed are unnecessary.
